Dell reboots the Linux notebooks project
Dell is planning to release a new notebook line running Ubuntu 12.04 this fall. The project for developers named “Project Sputnik”, which was announced earlier this year will go from a pilot phase to a finished product, the company announced. Dell tried to enter the market with mobile and desktop computers running the open source operating system, but didn’t make it.
The texas manufacturer will present the Dell XPS 13 notebook with preinstalled Ubuntu to a broader spectrum of potential customers. Of course there will be some geographic limitations for the availability of the model.

Model Open-PC XS with 1GB RAM and 40GB hard drive costs 249 dollars. Open-PC Micro priced 349 dollars includes 2GB RAM and 320GB hard drive. The price of the model is 387 euros and 10 euros from them are earmarked for development of KDE.
